Guided excursion in the natural ice of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area

Participation in the excursion requires skating training and compulsory safety equipment (own or hired - list of safety equipment below).).

Helsinki and its surrounding areas offer a wonderful setting for hiking - there is no other capital city in the world like it. The best skating areas in Helsinki are located off Vuosaari.

On this excursion you can skate on the natural ice with an experienced and trained guide and enjoy the peace and quiet of winter nature in an easy and safe way. During the excursion you will learn ice skating and backcountry skating skills according to the needs of the group and the current ice conditions. We will have a short picnic break during the two-hour excursion in a scenic landscape.

If you do not have a skating training we recommend

Introduction to Expedition Skating or Beginner Training

Join us on an expedition

You should dress appropriately for the expedition. By dressing in layers you can ensure that you are warm, but it is also possible to dress lightly if necessary. We recommend a base layer, wool or fleece jacket, windproof trousers and jacket, gloves and a hat. In addition to the mandatory safety equipment, you should pack a warm drink and some camping gear in your rucksack.

Location

We prefer to skate in the stunning seascapes of East Helsinki. The starting point is Helsinki Skating's premises at Kallvikinniementie 35, 00980 Helsinki. Google Maps

You can leave your car at the P-park of the Culture Centre Sofia. Walk behind a light-coloured brick building, turn left and walk along the beach for about 50 m. Here you will find the Helsinki Retkiluistelu offices, the toilet (at the beginning and end of the tour) and a sheltered place to adjust your equipment.
